Lubbers Cup Regatta to bring top rowers to compete on Spring Lake

Grand Valley State University (GVSU) rowers will face off against teams from around the United States and Canada next month on Spring Lake.

On April 2, GVSU Rowing hosts the annual Lubbers Cup Regatta from the Spring Lake Yacht Club. The races run from 8 a.m. until the awards ceremony at 2:00 p.m.

John Bancheri, GVSU’s Director of Rowing and Varsity Men’s Head Coach, talks about the history of the regatta, “The Lubbers Cup started 16 years ago under Coach Richard Laurance as a duel with Michigan State University. In sixteen years, this event has seen tremendous growth and an increased level of competition. This annual event has drawn some of the faster club and varsity crews in the Midwest. In fact, in the last three years, four of the top intercollegiate clubs teams in the country have competed at the Lubbers Cup Regatta.

BBBS Bowl for Kids' Sake Fundraiser Comes to the Lakeshore

Muskegon, Mich. Hundreds of Lakeshore bowlers will hit the lanes March 18 through May14 to “Bowl for Kids’ Sake” for Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Lakeshore. The annual bowling blast raises money to support mentoring programs for area children who could use a friend or role model in their lives.

Bowl for Kids’ Sake is open to bowlers at all levels of ability, and anyone who wants to have a great time while supporting a good cause. The event is not competitive and scores don’t matter – it’s all about raising pledges, helping kids and having fun. Prizes are given out throughout each bowling event for everything from answering trivia questions to throwing a strike, or even a gutter ball! Special prizes will also be presented to top team recruiters and fundraisers.

Free Snowmobile Safety Class @ SLDL

Spring Lake, MI--The Ottawa County Sheriff's Dept. will be teaching a free snowmobile safety class at the Spring Lake District Library on Tuesday, Jan. 11 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Youths ages 12 to 16 who successfully complete the class will receive a snowmobile safety certificate. Pre-registration is required. 

Snowmobile safety training is recommended for everyone who operates a snowmobile regardless of age. The combination of snow, ice, and speed of the machines makes safety training essential for safely operating a snowmobile.

Peach Plains Elementary to host Turkey Bowl

Winners of the Peach Plains fifth grade flag football tournament will play staff members during the first Turkey Bowl on Tuesday, November 23 at 2:55 p.m. The PTA is providing hot chocolate for students while they watch the game.

GHHS Cross Country Team to be honored

The Grand Haven High School cross country tream will be honored at the Grand Haven Area Public Schools Board of Education meeting on Monday, December 6, for their first place finish at the state competition. Later that evening, the Grand Haven City Council will recognize the team by presenting them a sign that will be placed at the city limits.
