GRAND HAVEN, Mich-  Students and families interested in the CyberSchool program are encouraged to attend an open enrollment night Monday, September 30.

The event will run from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Central High School. For more information, call (616) 850-6856.

Newspapers and phone books wanted for St. Mary’s School drive

Newspapers and phone books wanted for St. Mary’s School drive

SPRING LAKE, Mich.―Everyone from the community is encouraged to start collecting newspapers and phone books for the Saint Mary’s annual fall paper drive, slated for October 11, 12 and 13 at the church school grounds, located at 421 East Exchange St. in Spring Lake.

All newspapers and telephone books should be bundled in paper bags or string. No plastic bags will be allowed. Papers and phone books can be dropped off at Saint Mary’s Church parking lot, located on the south side of the building. A semi-trailer truck will be parked in the lot and paper items will be collected by designated staff.

Newspaper collection times include:

• October 11,  4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

• October 12, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

• October 13, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Two Cooley faculty members among 'Best Law Teachers' in the nation

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.-- Thomas M. Cooley Law School has the distinction of being the only law school in the country with two members of its faculty featured in the recently published book, "What the Best Law Teachers Do" (Harvard University Press, 2013).

The book names Associate Dean Nelson Miller and Professor Phillip J. Prygoski as two of the 26 “best law teachers” in the United States.

Authored by Professor Gerry Hess of Gonzaga University School of Law; Professor Sophie Sparrow of the University of New Hampshire School of Law; and Michael Hunter Schwartz, dean and professor of law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law, the book is the culmination of a four-year study that sought to identify extraordinary law teachers. The study details the attributes and practices of professors who have a significant, positive and long-term effect on their students.

GRAND HAVEN, Mich.-- White Pines Middle School families will have an opportunity to attend a three-part series this fall to better connect with their school and community. The series, called "Parent Connect", will provide strategies and resources to support positive behaviors, reading and math. "A collaborative approach is key to student success," White Pines fifth grade teacher Annie Ratke says.

Parishes team up to sponsor golf event for St. Mary's students

GRAND HAVEN, Mich.―St. Patrick and St. Anthony parishes are teaming up to  sponsoring a four-person golf scramble to benefit St. Mary's School  on Sunday, September 8.

The event will take place at Grand Haven Golf Course, located at 17000 Lincoln Street.  Registration begins at noon; the shotgun start is an hour later.   Dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m.

Cost for participating in the event is $65 per golfer.  The cost includes18 holes, a golf cart, prizes and dinner.  Registration is open to both men and women.  Any combination of four golfers is acceptable.  Also, non-golfers may attend the event at a cost of $10 per person.
