Friends of Spring Lake District Library annual Summer Book Sale

SPRING LAKE, Mich.-- Reel in the bargains on gently used books during the upcoming Friends of Spring Lake District Library book sale.

A wide selection of used books, audio books, DVDs and videos can be found at the annual summer sale, which is held in conjunction with the Spring Lake Heritage Festival. The sale will take place at the Spring Lake District Library on the following dates:

  • Thursday, June 13:  5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
  •  Friday, June 14: 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Saturday, June 15: 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Don't miss this opportunity to add titles to your home library for a fraction of what it would cost to purchase new books. Children’s books will be available for $0.10 to $0.50 each. Paperback books will be sold for $0.50.

FAFSA Filing Tips for Students & Parents @ SLDL - Feb 12

Spring Lake, MI--It’s that time of year again when FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) forms are due. Students and parents are invited to attend a free presentation about how to successfully complete FAFSA forms on Tuesday, Feb. 12 at 7:00 p.m. at Spring Lake District Library.

Staff from the Financial Aid Office at Grand Valley State University will share information about which documents are needed to complete FAFSA forms, types of financial aid, and how to determine eligibility for need based aid. Learn the benefits of filing online, how to create a PIN number, and how to avoid scams. Attendees are encouraged to bring their questions.

Free Tax Preparation Assistance for Seniors

Free Tax Preparation Assistance for Seniors

Spring Lake, MI--Free tax preparation assistance for seniors will be available at Spring Lake District Library during the months of February and March. Four Pointes Center for Successful Aging (formerly known as North Ottawa County Council on Aging) has partnered with AARP to provide trained volunteers who can assist seniors with preparing their tax forms. They can help with basic state and federal tax forms as well as Homestead Property and Home Heating tax credits.

Appointments are required. Those wishing to schedule an appointment to meet with a trained volunteer at the library will need to call Four Pointes Center for Successful Aging at (616) 842-9210.

Spring Lake, MI-The Friends of Spring Lake District Library are now selling Entertainment Coupon Books as part of their annual fund raising efforts. The 2013 Coupon Book contains a variety of new local and national coupons, exclusive buy one, get one free offers, up to 50% off coupons that are valid until November 2013, and access to mobile coupons with the Entertainment Mobile App. In additions to restaurant coupons, the book also contains coupons for shopping, travel, services, and entertainment.

Proceeds from the sales will benefit the Friends who support library activities such as the popular summer and winter reading programs, as well as the movie, magazine, and rental book collections.

GRAND HAVEN, Mich. -- The public is invited to a free seminar titled  “Savvy Social Security Planning” at the Loutit District Library (LDL) on Thursday, Oct. 11, from 7:00-8:30 p.m. presented by Brian Gerrans, a financial advisor from Waddell & Reed.

The seminar begins with the most asked questions people ask regarding Social Security such as: will Social Security be around upon retirement, how much can one expect to receive, when to apply for Social Security, how to maximize benefits, will Social Security be enough to live on in retirement.
