Accordionist performs at Spring Lake District Library

SPRING LAKE, Michigan-Accordionist Michael Schaeffer will be performing Sunday, October, 10 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Spring Lake District Library. Schaeffer will play a variety of music during the free presentation including French and Italian favorites like La Vien Rose and Torna A Sorrento, as well as Tango, Gypsy, and some original compositions. 

Schaeffer is a talented artist and musician whose home base is Grand Rapids, Michigan. He also plays the piano and began playing the accordion because of its portability and versatility.  You can learn more about Schaeffer’s art and music by visiting his website, www.michaeltheaccordionist.com.

Circle of Parents

SPRING LAKE, Michigan-Area parents are invited to join the Circle of Parents group that will be meeting on Thursday, October 14 and Thursday, October 28 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Spring Lake District Library.  Circle of Parents is a great way for parents to get together and share questions, concerns, problems, and solutions in a group setting. The meetings are co-led by parents and childcare professionals. There is no cost involved. Free dinner and childcare are provided, so parents who would like to attend are asked to pre-register. 

Pathways, MI is sponsoring the Tri-Cities area Circle of Parents group. Start-up funding for the Circle of Parents was provided by the Grand Haven Area Community Foundation, and is currently funded by the Children’s Trust Fund. Pathways’ mission is to provide life transforming services to children, families, and communities.

Aspects of Astrology

How can the date, time, and place of your birth help guide you when making life decisions? The public is invited to learn more about the ancient art of astrology: is it hokum of a little understood resource?  Join astrologer Mary Trumpfheller for a closer looke at the art and science of astrology on Tuesday, Oct. 12 at 7:00 p.m. at Spring Lake District Library.

Grand Haven Earns Community Excellence Award


DEARBORN, Mich. (Sept. 27, 2010) – The city of Grand Haven has won the 2010 Community Excellence Award in the Race for the Cup, by a statewide vote of Michigan Municipal League members.

The annual statewide competition recognizes outstanding community services, projects and programs. It’s the highest award bestowed on a community by the Michigan Municipal League.

Seven finalists – one from each of the League’s seven regions – were chosen as inspiring examples of what Michigan communities can accomplish through dynamic leadership, creative vision and collaborative effort. Grand Haven was selected by popular vote in the Race for the Cup competition during the League’s 112th Annual Convention, Sept. 21-24 in Dearborn.

Grand Haven won for its creative graphic design approach to communicating its annual city goals to both staff and the public at large.

Fruitport wins big over Spring Lake

FRUITPORT (WZZM) -- Two of the top teams in the Lakes Eight Conference met in Fruitport as the Trojans hosted the Spring Lake Lakers Friday.

The game was dominated by the home team.  Sean DeVries went over the middle to Cody Bayle for a Trojans touchdown.

Fruitport won big on the home field 33-8.

Grand Haven survives Jenison

JENISON (WZZM) -- Having knocked off Rockford last week, the Grand Haven Buccaneers tried to avoid a let down against the Jenison Wildcats Friday.

In the 1st quarter Jenison's Seth Diekevers had his punt blocked by Grand Haven.  The Bucs' Nick Whalen scooped it up and was brought down inside the 15.  The Bucs would try a field goal but would miss it so the drive would stall.

In the 2nd quarter Jenison's Jesse Fulkerson set up for a long field goal attempt but it landed short.

Grand Haven survived Jenison 7-0.
