GRAND HAVEN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM) -- Board members of gun club in Grand Haven Township are meeting with residents Monday night after stray bullets from a firing range hit homes a half mile away and a construction worker was wounded.
The bullets rained down on the Cutter Park subdivision Thursday morning. At the time, officers from the Grand Valley State University Department of Public Safety were conducting target practice at the North Ottawa Rod & Gun Club on 160th Avenue.
"Right now I'm very concerned. If no action is taken and the club opens back up with no changes... then I will be angry," said Cutter Park Resident Kristina Baszler. "We have a 5-year-old and a 2-year-old. We're concerned for them... yeah."
A stray bullet hit the back of her home, just a few feet away from her children's playset equipment. She and at least seven other residents found bullet holes in the siding of their homes. Some are saying they've seen the holes for months, now they realize where they're from.
"We're still in the process of collecting the data and giving time for the investigation to be complete," said Grand Haven Township Superintendent Bill Cargo.
Cargo says Township officials and staff are gathering information in coordination with the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department. They want to learn what authority they have for the Township board to discuss a course of action.
"I don't believe we have the authority at this stage because we don't have an ordinance for a rod and gun club," Cargo said.
The gun club's open meeting is on for Monday night at 7 p.m. Township board members are set to meet on October 10th to discuss the situation.
"If nothing is done than yes... I think myself, as well as everyone in this neighborhood, will be angry," Baszler said.
