GRAND HAVEN, Mich. (WZZM) -- A Wyoming teenager was seriously injured in an early morning crash on U.S. 31.

Marissa Buitendyk, 17, apparently fell asleep at the wheel while traveling on northbound around 7 a.m. Sunday on U.S. 31 just north of Pierce Street, according to the Grand Haven Tribune and police reports.

Authorities say Buitendyk's car drifted off the east side of the road while she dozed off. She woke, over-corrected and the car re-entered the highway and overturned.

Firefighters used the "Jaws of Life" to cut the roof off the vehicle to free Buitendyk, who was pinned inside. Her condition is unknown.
