My Town Grand Haven: School board approves wage freeze

---------------NEWS RELEASE-----------

GRAND HAVEN, Mich. (Grand Haven Area Public Schools)-- The Grand Haven Area Public Schools Board of Education approved a wage freeze for administrators, directors and non-association employees for the 2014-2015 school year at a special board meeting held on Friday, June 27.

"We are very appreciative that these employees groups are stepping forward to assist during these challenging financial times," Assistant Superintendent of Human Services Scott Grimes says. "Because our district will receive a net loss of $9 per pupil from the state of Michigan for the coming school year, it is vital that we work with our employee groups on cost-saving measures."

The administrators and directors groups include the building principals, assistant principals, superintendent, assistant superintendent, and department directors, while the non-association group includes central office staff, teacher assistants and papa-professionals.

Grimes adds that contract discussions are ongoing with the teacher, secretary and Local 517M employee groups.
