Grand Haven High School Awarded 2013 Michigan Exemplary Athletic Program Award
The Michigan Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (MIAAA) has awarded Grand Haven High School (GHHS) with the prestigious 2013 Michigan Exemplary Athletic Program Award, which recognizes exemplary programs that model excellence and equity. "We are extremely proud of this recognition," GHHS Athletic Director Robin Bye says. "This award is truly a reflection of dedicated staff, coaches and athletes, along with the support of parents and community members." The MIAAA identifies outstanding athletic programs statewide, and provides a framework to encourage self- assessments of current programs, facilitate best practices and encourage continued improvement. "Grand Haven provides what is best in educationally sound high school athletics," the awards committee states. "There is a strong district-wide commitment to athletic excellence for all the school's student-athletes, and this award recognizes sustained successes in teaching the values of high school athletics." The MIAAA is the professional organization for all high school or junior high/middle school athletic administrator in Michigan. The MIAAA provides many services to its members and opportunities for professional development and networking. Each year the association sponsors a Annual Conference and a Mid Summer Workshop for Athletic Directors (AD) that are highly regarded throughout the United States. The MIAAA also sponsors national leadership training and certification programs for athletic directors; publishes an informational newsletter; sponsors an awards and recognition program for ADs; and works in partnership with the MHSAA in establishing guidelines and policy for Michigan's athletic programs, conducting education programs for coaches, and conducting in-service training for ADs.
