Loutit District Library to host Community Massage and Wellness Expo Oct. 27

GRAND HAVEN, MI -- The American Massage Therapy Association will celebrate National Massage Therapy Awareness Week (Oct. 19-27) with local massage therapists and Baker College students by giving free chair and table massages on Saturday, Oct. 27, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Grand Haven’s Loutit District Library.

The second annual Community Massage and Wellness Expo, presented by Lotus Touch Massage and BOD-E-NOMICS, features free massages, door prizes and raffles for massage services, Tai Chi classes, and the opportunity to talk to local health professionals.

“We’re hosting the event to promote National Massage Therapy Awareness Week and to show the community the health benefits of massage,” said event organizer Wendy Schweifler, CEO of BOD-E-NOMICS and licensed massage therapist. “Also, you can come and try out different massage styles.”

Spring Lake, MI--The Spring Lake District Library will be hosting a free blood pressure clinic on Friday, October 26 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.  No appointment is necessary for the health screenings which are provided by In Home Care Nursing, an affiliate of North Ottawa Community Hospital. 

After you have your blood pressure checked, take a moment to check out the online health reference resource Salem Health that can be found at www.sllib.org.  This website contains a wealth of information designed to be used by the general public. A variety of health related topics can be found, including articles about anatomy, diseases, treatments, procedures, and a glossary of terms.  All of the information is up to date and easy to find with just a few clicks of the computer mouse.

Grand Haven Community Center located at 421 Columbus Avenue in Grand Haven is the place to be on Saturday, October 13 from 10am to 3pm to start your holiday shopping for a great cause. There will be over 60 unique vendors to browse for your gift ideas, along with items raffled off!

Color is just around the corner here in West Michigan with the cool nights we have had and it is the perfect time to start thinking about a fall color tour. I found this one on the web, a tour starting in Grand Haven but then travels through Jenison, Grandville and Spring Lake before ending back in Grand Haven. I hope you are able to take advantage of our beautiful state at this time of year.

Robbins Rd east to Mercury Dr past Grand River bayous to Riverside Park (becomes Green St, then North Cedar Dr). South on 104th Ave, east on Osborn St (becomes Warner). South on 68th St, east on M-45. South onto 48th St, east on Fillmore (becomes Cottonwood Dr). Sign language course begins October 1 at LDL

GRAND HAVEN, MI -- The public is invited to a month of Sign Language at the Loutit District Library beginning Monday, October 1.

Sign language instructor, Stephanie Kazanas, will offer a free four-session Sign Language course each Monday night through October 22 from 7:00-8:30 p.m. in the Library’s Program Room A.

The October 1 program will focus on the basic signs, ABCs, numbers, and creating everyday basic sentences; October 8 centers on feelings, adjectives, and descriptive vocabulary to enhance ones sentence structure and sign language communication skills; October 15 spotlights on school signs, business signs, and directions; and October 22 concentrates on food signs, clothing, and shopping vocabulary.

Each week students will have the opportunity to practice new signing skills and utilize new signing abilities. Although it is not necessary to go to each session, each session will build upon the next.
