Terrifying Tales at SLDL

SPRING LAKE, Michigan-Youth age10 and older are invited to Spring Lake District Library on Wed., Oct. 20 at 4:00 p.m. for a special Halloween treat. Readers theatre troupe Voice Activated will perform a vignette of terrifying tales sure to send tingles down your spine. The talented Voice Activated performers rely on their voices, facial expressions, gestures, and the audience’s imagination to create their performance scenarios. Wear a costume or come as you are.

Pumpkin Painting Fun

SPRING LAKE, Michigan-Spring Lake District Library will provide the pumpkins and the paint, you provide the creativity! Boys and girls are invited to paint a pumpkin at the library on Monday, Oct. 18 at 4:00 p.m. Children age 7 and younger must be accompanied by an adult. Attendees will have a chance to win a pumpkin painted by artist Ken Widing who will be on hand to offer decorating tips.

Circle of Parents

SPRING LAKE, Michigan-Area parents are invited to join the Circle of Parents group that will be meeting on Thursday, October 14 and Thursday, October 28 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Spring Lake District Library.  Circle of Parents is a great way for parents to get together and share questions, concerns, problems, and solutions in a group setting. The meetings are co-led by parents and childcare professionals. There is no cost involved. Free dinner and childcare are provided, so parents who would like to attend are asked to pre-register. 

Pathways, MI is sponsoring the Tri-Cities area Circle of Parents group. Start-up funding for the Circle of Parents was provided by the Grand Haven Area Community Foundation, and is currently funded by the Children’s Trust Fund. Pathways’ mission is to provide life transforming services to children, families, and communities.

Loutit District Library goes to the dogs as certified canine visits kids

GRAND HAVEN, Michigan -- What could be more fun than reading a good book? Reading a book with a big, cuddly dog!

Kids will have a chance to read with--and to-- a BFD (That stands for big, friendly dog!) when Lilly comes to Loutit District Library Saturday, September 25 from 2:00 p.m.to 3:00 p.m.

Lilly is a five-year-old New Foundland who lives with Char Nash of Grand Haven. Lilly has earned certifications as a therapy dog and as a crisis response dog.

Michigan Reads! Author Visits Spring Lake District Library

Spring Lake District Library will be hosting a special storytime event featuring children’s author Jeffery Schatzer on Monday, Sept. 27 at 6:30 p.m.  Schatzer’s book The Runaway Garden: A Delicious Story That’s Good for You, Too! was chosen as this year’s Michigan Reads! One State, One Children’s Book. Children and parents are invited to attend and meet the author following his reading of The Runaway Garden. 

The "Michigan Reads!" program is modeled after the "One Book, One Community" concept and is designed to emphasize the importance of reading to babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and young school-age children. 

Jeffery L. Schatzer is a national award-winning author of picture books and historical fiction chapter books for young people.

Children's Book Festival at Spring Lake District Library

Come one, come all, to celebrate the joy of books and reading during the Children's Book Festival on Sat., Sept. 25 at Spring Lake District Library.  Several children's book authors and illustrators will be participating in the festival which will run from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Parents and children are invited to attend and bring their cameras to take photos with their favorite authors and illustrators and Clifford the Big Red Dog.  Kidder the Clown will make balloon hats and animals and caricaturist David Wodarek will be drawing free caricatures.

The stellar list of authors and illustrators who will be on hand to meet their fans and sign books include: Nancy Shaw, Debbie Taylor, Tracy Gallup, Charles Ferguson Barker, Laurie Keller, Aaron Zenz, Amy Young, and Kevin Collier.

Spring Lake Mobile Food Truck

Doors open at 5pm for registration and a free pizza dinner, with grocery distribution to follow. Groceries are avaiable for anyone in the community who is in need.
