Corpus Christi and Saint Mary’s School Team Up for Annual “Science Day” on May 17

SPRING LAKE, Mich., April 20, 2012 – Students from Corpus Christi Catholic School in Holland and Saint Mary’s School in Spring Lake are teaming up for the third year in a row to present their science projects  at the annual “Science Day” on May 17, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. at Corpus Christi School, 12100 Quincy Street, Holland.

The event brings together students from fifth-through-eighth grades at both schools to showcase their science projects and unit projects they developed during the school year to share with their counterparts in an afternoon of science inquiry.

“The students take ownership in what they have learned because they are responsible for presenting a capsule summary of their projects,” said Amy Giroux, teacher with Saint Mary’s School.

As a science teacher, Giroux takes pride in watching students articulate what they learned from their projects.  She sees a sense of accomplishment they experience in a job well done.

Saint Mary’s School to Celebrate “Grand Friends Day” on May 4

SPRING LAKE, Mich., April 20, 2012 – Children enrolled at Saint Mary’s School are set to honor grandparents on May 4, from 8:40 a.m. to 12:10 p.m. at the upcoming “Grand Friends Day.”

Realizing that it is not always possible for grandparents to come for various reasons, a great aunt or uncle, godparent or a special family friend will be spending the morning with their special Saint Mary’s School student.

The day’s activities include time set aside for “grand friends” to make classroom visits, attend mass together with the students, and view the school’s annual spring program in the Saint Mary’s Activity Center, which sits adjacent to the school across the parking lot.

Students and grand friends also eat lunch together, meet the teachers and staff.

Anyone interested in attending or those who have questions about the event should contact Ann Pendery at Saint Mary’s School: 616/842-1282 for further information.
