September is Library Card Sign-Up Month

What is the essential back to school item every student should have? A library card! It’s no accident that Library Card Sign-Up Month coincides with the beginning of the new school year. Library cards are an invaluable tool for students. Those with Spring Lake District Library cards have access to a wealth of information that can be found not only on library shelves but from the convenience of a home computer or mobile device by accessing the library’s e-resources.

SLDL card holders who visit the library’s website, sllib.org, will find useful information for students of all ages. Youth can access Encyclopedia Britannica as well as the many MeL (Michigan e-Library) resources available, including CultureGrams and InfoTrac Junior Edition. Academic OneFile is a comprehensive database containing peer reviewed journal articles for the college level researcher.

SLD has a variety of resources for adults as well. The library’s e-collection includes Consumer Reports and Mango, an interactive online language learning system. Choose from 19 different magazines including Taste of Home, Bloomberg Businessweek, and Popular Science by clicking on Zinio Digital Magazines. Auto repair information for the diy mechanic is available through Chilton’s online.

The business community can access Demographics Now which contains highly detailed demographic data, making it ideal for market research. Business Insights: Global offers comprehensive information about company and industry profiles including market share and financial reports. The Small Business Resource Center contains a variety of resources about how to start, finance, and manage your business, including business plans and forms.

Spring Lake residents age 18 or older who don’t already have a library card may obtain one by presenting their valid Michigan Driver’s License or Michigan Identification. Lost your library card?  Replacement cards for SLDL patrons are free during Library Card  Sign-Up Month.

Call the library at 616.846.5770 or visit the library’s website, sllib.org, for more information. The library is located at 123 E. Exchange Street in Spring Lake.
