My Town Grand Haven: New technology purchases approved by school district

GRAND HAVEN, Mich.— Teachers and students from Grand Haven Area Public Schools will likely be welcomed with new technology when they return to their classrooms this fall.

The GHAPS Board of Education has approved purchasing nearly $1.8 million in technology upgrades, including wireless equipment, laptops, iPads and audio systems.

"We are taking advantage of competitive pricing opportunities," Technology Coordinator Doug Start said. "This opportunity will extend our bond dollars in the future."

In May, voters approved a school bond proposal that will provide $36 million to help cover the cost of new technology, as well as building and transportation upgrades.  A second bond providing $9.69 million to the district for upgrades to athletic facilities, arts facilities, cafeterias, school grounds and purchasing property for schools, also passed by a wide margin.
