St. Patrick-St. Anthony Parish to Host Summer Celebration May 29

GRAND HAVEN, Mich., May 14, 2015--When St. Patrick-St. Anthony Parish opens its doors to the general public for a special "Summer Celebration" on Friday, May 29, from 6 p.m. to midnight, those in attendance will be welcomed to find their place by the bandshell being brought in for a toe-tapping party in the parking lot, food, drinks, dancing and entertainment.

The event will be held on the parish grounds at 920 Fulton Street in Grand Haven.  Cost of admission is $5 per person.  Hot dogs, brat's, Jet's pizza, pop and water will be available for a minimal fee.  A full cash bar also will be available, serving keg and canned beer, wine and a variety of mixed drinks.

Live music will be provided by performers with the Scottville Clown Band from 6 to 8 p.m., followed by Soul'd Out Band, featuring lead singer and parishioner Bubba LeClair, from 8 p.m. to midnight.

Job Seekers Ministry hosting Breakfast for People seeking Work

St. Patrick and St. Anthony Parishes in Grand Haven, MI are having a breakfast for people seeking jobs/work. This breakfast is hosted by Job Seekers Ministry on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 from 8:30 – 10:00am at the Parish Family Center located at 920 Fulton St.

Pre-registration is required by May 18th and those interested should contact the Job Seekers Program at 616-842-0001, ext. 143 to RSVP for the breakfast.

The Job Seekers staff will work with individuals to prepare them to re-enter the job market by helping them with resume writing, coaching, interviewing techniques and job matching. They will spend up to three times with any one individual to help them. This event is open to the general public.

Job Seekers has partnered with Michigan Works, Catholic Charities of West Michigan, Employment Alliance, along with the Grand Haven Community Foundation to make these programs available for people seeking employment.

Fresh Open-Air Spring Peddlers Market in Zeeland

Zeeland will host the Second Annual Spring Peddler’s Market on Saturday, May 16, 2015 from 9am – 2pm. This event, an artfully curious faire, will be held downtown on Church St. between Cherry St. and Central Ave. In case of severe weather, this event will be moved to the gym at City Side Middle School, located at 320 East Main St. in Zeeland.

The market will have a number of different vendors, 35 at this time, with a wide variety of wares. There will be homemade children’s clothing, art prints, flowers, jewelry, household gifts and goods, vintage furniture and décor, architectural salvage, fresh bread, handcrafted outdoor furniture, antiques, candles, soaps and repurposed finds. Along with all these things there will be live music.

This is a fresh, open-air lifestyle market so grab a cup of coffee and stroll through all the booths.

On Sunday, May 24, 2015, the USS Silversides Submarine Museum will hold the 29th Annual Lost Boat Ceremony to honor the 52 USN submarines that were lost during WW11 and the over 3500 men who are still on “eternal patrol.”

The ceremony will begin at 11:00am with a fly over by a local warbird group, The Hooligans. The keynote address will be delivered by Captain Michael B. Ryan, commanding officer and professor of Naval Science at the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps Unit at the University of Notre Dame. The ceremony concludes with the starting of the Silversides’ engines.

You are invited to a free lunch following the ceremony and will have time to explore the museum and vessels at no charge up until 1:00pm.

Folias Flute and Guitar Duo concludes LDL’s Fifth Sunday Afternoon Concert series May 17

GRAND HAVEN, MI – The Grand Rapids-based Folias Flute and Guitar Duo was founded by the husband and wife duo Carmen Maret and Andrew Bergeron in 2002.

On May 17 at the Loutit District Library (LDL), the duo will their perform original flute and guitar music influenced by classical, tango, and jazz.

They have performed in concert halls, clubs, and for tango events across North America. The duo’s original compositions and arrangements have been recorded on the Blue Griffin Recording and White Pine Music labels and have been reviewed by Flute Talk and Fanfare.

Christiansen's success reveals that one does not need much to start a new business -- just passion and persistence. A time for questions and answers will follow her discussion. One of her furry business partners will also join her for this program.
