Northwest Ottawa businesses partner with schools for annual career exploration event

For the third year in a row, the Chamber of Commerce Grand Haven Spring Lake Ferrysburg will be hosting a career exploration event called Boomerang in an effort to connect local business professionals with area high school students.  On Tuesday, October 26, 2010, local businesses will spend the day interacting with nearly 800 students from Grand Haven, Spring Lake and Central High Schools. 

Boomerang is a career exploration event designed to attract local talent back to the area after pursuing higher education.  This goal is achieved by showcasing local companies and the kinds of talent they hire.  On October 26th, participating businesses will have a unique opportunity to showcase their organizations and the various career paths available with students.  In turn, students in this community have an opportunity to personally meet, interact and ask questions about careers, education, sk

Pumpkin Painting Fun

SPRING LAKE, Michigan-Spring Lake District Library will provide the pumpkins and the paint, you provide the creativity! Boys and girls are invited to paint a pumpkin at the library on Monday, Oct. 18 at 4:00 p.m. Children age 7 and younger must be accompanied by an adult. Attendees will have a chance to win a pumpkin painted by artist Ken Widing who will be on hand to offer decorating tips.

Loutit District Library to host author Kim Douglas

GRAND HAVEN, Michigan – Loutit District Library is partnering with the Center for Women in Transition to present author Kim Douglas on October 19 at 7:00 p.m. in the library’s Program Rooms A and B.

Her book, High Desert, is a courageous, gripping, and deeply personal auto-biographical account that offers one person's experience of growing up in an abusive home and learning to rely on her faith and spiritual beliefs to heal and grow in ways that go beyond traditional twelve-step programs and other approaches.

SLPS - Cancer Out Night

Spring Lake, MI - Tonight's Laker football game provides a unique opportunity to honor victims of cancer. The team will be wearing purple jerseys while fans will be wearing their purple tackling cancer t-shirts purchased during the September 17th game. If you didn't have a chance to purchase a t-shirt, please wear the color purple to the game to help support the cause.

Accordionist performs at Spring Lake District Library

SPRING LAKE, Michigan-Accordionist Michael Schaeffer will be performing Sunday, October, 10 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Spring Lake District Library. Schaeffer will play a variety of music during the free presentation including French and Italian favorites like La Vien Rose and Torna A Sorrento, as well as Tango, Gypsy, and some original compositions. 

Schaeffer is a talented artist and musician whose home base is Grand Rapids, Michigan. He also plays the piano and began playing the accordion because of its portability and versatility.  You can learn more about Schaeffer’s art and music by visiting his website, www.michaeltheaccordionist.com.

Circle of Parents

SPRING LAKE, Michigan-Area parents are invited to join the Circle of Parents group that will be meeting on Thursday, October 14 and Thursday, October 28 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Spring Lake District Library.  Circle of Parents is a great way for parents to get together and share questions, concerns, problems, and solutions in a group setting. The meetings are co-led by parents and childcare professionals. There is no cost involved. Free dinner and childcare are provided, so parents who would like to attend are asked to pre-register. 

Pathways, MI is sponsoring the Tri-Cities area Circle of Parents group. Start-up funding for the Circle of Parents was provided by the Grand Haven Area Community Foundation, and is currently funded by the Children’s Trust Fund. Pathways’ mission is to provide life transforming services to children, families, and communities.

Book discussion to be held at Loutit District Library October 14
