Halloween Magic Show at Spring Lake District Library

SPRING LAKE -- Ghouls and goblins are invited to attend a free Halloween magic show at Spring Lake District Library on Saturday, Oct. 30 at 2:00 p.m.  Magician Renee Hudson will entertain the audience with magic and comedy routines. Children are invited to wear their costumes or come as they are. Boys and girls of all ages will enjoy this spooktacular show.  Youth age 7 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.

Political Pundit Kyle Melinn to Speak at Spring Lake District Library

Spring Lake, MI-Kyle Melinn, considered one of Michigan’s leading political pundits, will speak about the 2010 Michigan elections at Spring Lake District Library on Monday, Oct. 25 at 7:00 p.m. Melinn will provide an analysis of the major party candidates on the 2010 Michigan ballot as well as Proposals 1 and 2.  The event is free and the public is invited to attend. 

Melinn is the News Editor for Michigan Information & Research Service, Inc. (MIRS). MIRS provides comprehensive news and analysis of Michigan state government online at www.mirsnews.com. Melinn is also a frequent guest on the PBS show Off the Record.

Spring Lake Intermediate School- Principal's Letter

Beginning October 12th, our school will begin MEAP testing. Both the 5th and 6th grade students will take tests in Mathematics and English/Language Arts. Additionally, the 5th grade students will take a Science test and the 6th grade students will take a Social Studies test. The testing window is only four days: 10/12, 10/13, 10/19, and 10/20. Our school promises to continue doing our part to ensure the success of each child. We ask that you help us at home by making sure your children get plenty of rest, and that the students have plenty of water and nutritious snacks to ensure they are physically ready for their testing days.

Candidate Forums at Spring Lake District Library

Spring Lake, MI-The public is invited to attend candidate forums moderated by the local chapter of the League of Women Voters that will take place at Spring Lake District Library. The forum on Thursday, Oct. 21 at 6:30 p.m. will include the candidates who are vying for the state House 89th District and state Senate 30th District seats. The forum on Tuesday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. will feature the candidates vying for the 2nd Congressional seat. Take advantage of these opportunities to learn where the candidates stand on matters that are important to you.

Virtual Vist with Author Johnathan Rand at SLDL

SPRING LAKE, Michigan-Johnathan Rand, the author of a variety of popular children’s books including the series Michigan Chillers,  American Chillers, and  Freddie Fernortner Fearless First Grader, will “virtually” visit the Spring Lake District Library on Tuesday, Oct. 19 at 4:00 p.m. Rand will talk with the library audience via Skype. SKype is computer software that  allows you to see the person you are talking with.  Those who attend will have the opportunity to speak with the author and enter a drawing for an MP3 player. The MP3 player is one of the cool prizes kids will have an opportunity to win during Teen Read Week courtesy of the Friends of Spring Lake District Library.

Terrifying Tales at SLDL

SPRING LAKE, Michigan-Youth age10 and older are invited to Spring Lake District Library on Wed., Oct. 20 at 4:00 p.m. for a special Halloween treat. Readers theatre troupe Voice Activated will perform a vignette of terrifying tales sure to send tingles down your spine. The talented Voice Activated performers rely on their voices, facial expressions, gestures, and the audience’s imagination to create their performance scenarios. Wear a costume or come as you are.
