Spring Lake High School presents Charlotte's Web

Spring Lake, MI - Spring Lake High School presents Charlotte's Web, a classic tale of sacrifice and growing up, November 4th, 5th, and 6th at the high school auditorium. Come see the memorable characters including Charlotte, Wilbur, and Fern.

Grand Haven Community Center set to kick off monthlong art exhibit on slavery

GRAND HAVEN, Michigan -- Jon McDonald, a noted regional painter who specializes in watercolor and oils, will join visitors to his Grand Haven exhibition entitled Slavery’s Chill during a special reception and a “Walk Through the Paintings” lecture. McDonald’s exhibit showcases 12 portraits depicting the history and emotion of slavery.

The program on Wednesday, November 3, will begin with a reception at 6:00 p.m. McDonald’s lecture will be held in the auditorium at 7:00 p.m.

Vibraphonist Performs at Spring Lake District Library

SPRING LAKE -- Professional jazz vibraphonist Jim Cooper will be performing at the Spring Lake District Library on Sunday, Nov. 14 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The public is invited to enjoy jazz tunes performed on the vibraphone and learn about the music of other great jazz vibraphonists. 

For those who may be unfamiliar with the vibraphone, it is a percussion instrument that resembles a xylophone, but has metal bars, resonators driven by motors, and a sustain pedal like a piano. Cooper utilizes both his piano and drum skills when playing the vibraphone. 

Cooper will talk about jazz vibraphone greats like Lionel Hampton, Milt Jackson, Cal Tjader, and Gary Burton  and play some of their best know songs like Bag's Groove, Flying Home, Little B's Poem, and Falling Grace during this free performance.

Knitted Wire Jewelry Workshop at Spring Lake District Library

SPRING LAKE -- Learn to create unique knit wire and bead jewelry at the Spring Lake District Library on Saturday, Nov. 6 from 1 to 4 p.m.  Artist Joanie Flynn will show knitters how to make a hand-knitted wire bracelet with bead accents during the workshop. An $8 materials fee is due at the workshop to cover the cost of all materials which will be provided.  Adults and youth age 12 and older are welcome.  Attendees must know how to knit, and pre-registration is required. Learn about Venture Capital Fund at Spring Lake District Library

SPRING LAKE -- The Michigan Accelerator Fund is a newly chartered venture capital fund dedicated to investing in Michigan-based early stage companies in the life sciences, homeland security, alternative energy, and advance manufacturing sectors. Spring Lake District Library will be hosting a free presentation on Thursday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. about the venture capital fund. Guest speaker Dale Grogan of The Charter Group will share information and answer audience questions about the fund which was recently awarded “Deal Of  The Year,” by West Michigan Business Review.

Grogan along with John Kerschen of The Charter Group, a merger and acquisition advisory company based in Grand Rapids, are managing the $10 million fund.

Staging Your Home to Sell!

Spring Lake, MI -- Home staging, professionally preparing homes for sale, can help home sellers appeal to the largest market of buyers and generate the highest sale price in the least amount of time. Staging your home to sell will be presented at Spring Lake District Library on Wed., Nov. 3 at 7:00 p.m. The guest speaker will be Kathy Gilleland of Eye 4 Design. Gilleland’s fields of expertise include real estate staging, redesign, and color consultations. She will discuss the what, why, and how of staging a home during this free presentation. 

Gilleland has also redesigned in the commercial sector. She received her Qualified Redesign Specialist and Qualified Staging Specialist accreditation at the Midwest Staging Redesign Institute in Chicago. She has earned the RESA-PRO designation from the Real Estate Staging Association.
