The City of Grand Haven Planning Commission has scheduled a Public Hearing to gather citizen input on the following:
 
1. Case 10-21: A Public Hearing on a proposed text amendment to Article Five, Section 40 560. The proposed language would amend  the Special Land Use requirements for Sheltered Housing facilities to provide for a density/occupancy requirement.

2. Case 11-01: A Public Hearing on a proposed text amendment for Article Six, sections 40-600.03, Specific Requirements for One-Family and Two-Family Dwellings. The proposed language would amend the driveway material requirements to allow for porous, permeable driveway systems.

Loutit District Library to offer pastel workshop January 22

GRAND HAVEN -- Registration is now open for A Pastel Experience, a workshop instructed by local artist Patricia Dee on Saturday, January 22 from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Loutit District Library.

The course provides information and instruction as well as the handling and application. Students will learn about the origins of pastels and the different types available, as well as show various applications styles. 

Students will have the opportunity to paint on more than one type of paper and experience the difference between painting on white and tinted papers.

Course topics include: Types of Pastels, Material cautions, handling, Supports – paper, sanded – rigid, Painting with Pastels – applications/strokes – under-painting, Tools – brush, spray, peanuts, gloves, tape, ruler, and Matting/Framing.

At day’s end, everyone will leave with a painting. There is $10.00 material fee due at the time of registration. Class is limited to 16 students.

About every 25 seconds, an American will have a coronary event, and about one every minute will die from one.

American Heart Association Family & Friends CPR

This program teaches how to perform CPR in adults, children, or infants and how to help an adult, child, or infant who is choking. It is perfect for Family members, friends and members of the general  community who want to learn CPR but do not need a course completion card. Anyone required by his or her employer or wishing to be credentialed as a lay responder may contact Spring Lake Fire Department  for more information.

GRAND HAVEN -- Toy Story III will be the feature movie for kids and their family at Loutit District Library’s holiday matinee on Wednesday, December 29 in the Youth Program Room from 2:00 to 3:45 p.m.

Loutit District Library kicks off youth holiday reading program

GRAND HAVEN -- Registration begins Friday, December 17 at the Youth Information Desk for Loutit District Library’s Polar Express Holiday Reading Program for teens and kids age 18 years and under.

Participants read one chapter book, two new readers or five picture books to earn a Polar Express coupon worth $1 and an entry in the grand prize drawing.

LDL will honor Polar Express coupons for video or music CD fees or to pay fines. Participants may earn up to three coupons. The program runs through January 7. The grand prize drawing for a $25 gift certificate for Mackinaw Kite Company and for a $15 gift certificate for the Bookman will take place on Saturday, January 8.
