GRAND HAVEN -- Michigan Senior Olympics gold medalist Jimmy O’Hearn returns to bring one of the nation’s fastest growing sports for a six-week introductory period for seniors.

O’Hearn will again instruct Pickleball, a mini-tennis game played by 2 or 4 people on a badminton-sized court using wood paddle racquets and a plastic baseball with holes, beginning Monday, April 4 at 10:00 a.m until 11:00a.m.

LDL’s Pickleball court will be held on the library’s parking lot on the corner of Fourth Street and Columbus Avenue. The court will be marked off with the same dimensions as a badminton court. The game uses paddles to hit a wiffle ball, which cannot be smashed at an opponent from inside the T-zone at the top of the court. Serves, like badminton and tennis, must be directed to the opponent diagonal the server. The ball must bounce once before each serve and the ensuing return, but can be played out of mid-air from that point. (http://usapa.org/)

Registration is not required. This free program will continue every Monday through August 22 . In case of inclement weather, the courts will be moved inside to Program Rooms A and B. Classes will not be held on Memorial Day and 4th of July. For more information, visit http://www.loutitlibrary.org/ or call 616-842-5560, ext. 222.
