Spring Lake, MI-Spring Lake District Library would like to remind the community of the many resources available at the library and National Library Week, April 8-14, is the perfect opportunity. Whether you are a job seeker looking for resources to land a new job, a parent looking for free activities for children or a student searching for your next favorite book, you belong at your library.

Today’s libraries help level the playing field by making both print and digital information affordable, available and accessible to all people.  Libraries provide materials in print and electronic formats, job seeking resources, early literacy opportunities, classes and many other creative and resourceful programs.

Libraries have historically served as our nation’s great equalizers of knowledge. The strength of libraries has always been the diversity of their collections and commitment to serving all people. This National Library Week, join our nation’s libraries and librarians by celebrating the place where we all belong.

If you haven’t visited Spring Lake District Library lately, stop in during National Library Week to see what’s new. Books are available in a variety of formats including e-books and e-audio books. Spring Lake District Library also has Sony e-readers available for patrons to check out. On-line resources include Consumer Reports, The Birds of North America, Salem Health, and Chilton Automotive Repair.

Monday, April 9, 4:00 p.m.-5:30 p.m. - Chess Club for Kids

Kids of all ages and skill levels are welcome to participate in the monthly after school chess club.  Enjoy free pizza and friendly competition while honing your chess skills.

 

Monday, April 9, 7:00 p.m. - Everything You Want to Know About Facebook

Let social media expert Christopher VanOosterhout walk you through the do’s and don’ts of Facebook. This free presentation in the perfect introduction to the on-line resource 845 million people world-wide use.  Find out what Facebook can do for you.

 

Tuesday, April 10, 7:00 p.m. - Living on the Edge: A History of Auto Racing in Michigan

Auto racing fans are invited to join author and newspaper columnist Rich Sigsby for an insider’s look at the thrill of auto racing in Michigan. Book signing to follow presentation.

 

Wednesday, April 1, 9:30 a.m. or 10:45 a.m. - OAISD Play ‘n Learn

Early literacy fun for families with children ages 0-5.  Age appropriate activities and information about reading readiness available for parents. Attendees take home a free book to keep.

 

Wednesday, April 11, 5:30 p.m. - Antique Appraisals with Harry Rinker

Renowned antiques and collectibles expert Harry L. Rinker will provide verbal appraisals during this fundraiser benefiting the Friends of Spring Lake District Library. The ticket price is $5 per item, limit two tickets per customer. Tickets can be purchased at the library. Copies of Rinker’s book Sell, Keep, or Toss? How to Downsize a Home, Settle an Estate, and Appraise Personal Property will also be available for purchase and signing at the event.

                                                                                   

Thursday, April 12, 10:30 a.m. - Preschool Storytime

Preschool storytime for families with children ages 3 to 6 years old. Children and parents  will enjoy this special bi-lingual Spanish storytime featuring special guest Raquel Raguse. This storytime theme will be repeated on Friday, April 13 at 10:30 a.m.

 

Thursday, April 12, 7:00 p.m. - Classical Guitarist Paul Vondiziano

Free concert by world renowned classical guitarist Paul Vondiziano. Paul has performed for audiences around the world, and as well as intimate community venues such as Spring Lake District Library. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear a master perform.

 

Friday, April 13, 2:30 p.m. - Intro to the Internet                                                    

Hyperlinks, search engines, and Internet safety will all be discussed during this free introduction to the world wide web. Bring your questions.
