Congressional Art Competition Entries Due to Rep. Huizenga’s Office By April 25


High school artists in the 2nd District are reminded that the deadline for the Congressional Art Competition is next Monday, April 25. Whether it’s paintings, photography, or computer-generated art, U.S. Rep. Bill Huizenga, MI-02, is calling for entries from across the 2nd District for the 2011 Congressional Art Competition.

Bluebird Cancer Retreats announces "Biking for Bluebird"

Bluebird Cancer Retreats is hosting Biking for Bluebird, a lakeshore century ride to support those living with cancer.

The ride starts at 8:00 am on Saturday, June 25, at Old Boys' Brewhouse. The route, designed by Tim Meyer of Rock 'n' Road Cycles, can be seen by clicking here.

Participants in the event will receive a custom jersey and are invited to attend a party at Old Boys' Brewhouse after the ride.

Bluebird Cancer Retreats is a non-profit organization offering weekend retreats, support groups for for those dealing with cancer, and healthy living workshops.

Saint Mary's Parish School to hold fourth annual "Race for Education"

SPRING LAKE, Mich. - Students will get fit and help raise funds for Saint Mary’s Parish School in Spring Lake during the fourth annual Saint Mary’s Parish School “Race for Education.”

The race will be held on Friday, May 13, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. around the school grounds and Saint Mary’s Church block, located at 421 east Exchange Street in Spring Lake.

“Buy A Brick” and honor a family member, graduate, or teacher with a lasting tribute around the SLHS flagpole.Personalized bricks are a great permanent gift for all past, present, and future Lakers. This gift is a tax deductible contribution of $100 and consists of a 4” x 8” brick engraved with your name and / or personal message.

The Village Council of the village of Spring Lake is looking for an interested resident wanting to serve on the Village Council. The Village Council meets on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month at 7:00 p.m. The appointment will be to fill a partial term expiring December 2011. Interested parties should fill out a personal profile form that can be obtained from the Village Hall office, 102 W. Savidge, Spring Lake or online at www.springlakevillage.org. Deadline for submitting an application is April 13, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. or until vacancies are filled. Village Council will interview candidates at the April 18th Village Council meeting. News Release:

            SPRING LAKE, Mich., April 5, 2011 –  Everyone from the community is being encouraged to start collecting their newspapers and phone books for the Saint Mary’s annual spring paper drive, which will be held from April 15th through 17th at the church school grounds,421 E Exchange St.,Spring Lake,Michigan.

             Any member of the community wishing to collect newspapers and telephone books and donate them to the Saint Mary’s Parish School on the April designated dates is being asked to do so to help in the school’s Home and School Association fundraising efforts.

             All newspapers and telephone books should be bundled in paper bags or string.  No plastic bags will be allowed.  They should be brought to Saint M
