Steve Loftis Named 2011 Jingle Bell Parade Grand Marshal

Grand Haven, Michigan – The Chamber of Commerce Grand Haven, Spring Lake, Ferrysburg is pleased to announce that Steve Loftis will lead the parade as this year’s Grand Marshal of the 2011 Jingle Bell Parade as it winds through downtown Grand Haven on Saturday, December 3.

 

Steve was born in Grand Rapids and is one of seven children. He was introduced to the food service industry as a part-time employee when he was 14 years old.

Faith in Action International Missionary Tom Braak Will Be at UMC-Dunes' "Christ-Inspired Christmas"

GRAND HAVEN, Mich., Nov. 11, 2011 -  Tom Braak, founder and missionary with Faith in Action International (FIAI), based in Verrettes, Haiti, will make a special appearance at the upcoming "Christ-Inspired Christmas" event on Sunday, December 11, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at United Methodist Church of the Dunes (UMC-Dunes).

UMC-Dunes is located at 717 Sheldon Road in Grand Haven.

Braak's appearance comes fast on the heels of a land purchase near the FIAI mission headquarters.  The transaction includes the purchase of 1.5 hectares (about 3.7 acres).  It will pave the way for Braak to expand the mission's outreach.  Braak hopes to increase the number and scope of pastoral training seminars for Haitian ministers plus agricultural training for Haitian villagers.  The land is purchased in the name of the Methodist Church of Haiti.

Grand Haven Resident Bruce Buckley Creates Wood Figures for Methodist Church Bazaar

GRAND HAVEN, Mich., Oct. 31, 2011 - Grand Haven resident Bruce Buckley has been working hard - and using his talents in wood crafting - to prepare for this weekend's key holiday fundraiser, the "Holly Berry Bazaar," at United Methodist Church of the Dunes.

Buckley, a wood door specialist, has made unique, one-of-a-kind wooden snowmen for the church bazaar.

Each figure is made entirely out of cherry wood.  None of the figures are alike due to the way the wood was cut plus the decorations applied to the finished products by the United Methodist Women's group members.  They collaborated with Buckley to make these collectibles unique.

SPRING LAKE, Mich. Oct. 31, 2011 –On Wednesday, November 2, St. Mary’s School will not have school as decreed by Father Dan in recognition of the 26th anniversary of his Ordination to the priest-hood.

Saint Mary’s School is located on the corner of Prospect and Exchange Street behind St. Mary’s Parish.  Enrollment includes students from Freemont, Ravenna, Norton Shores, West Olive, Grand Haven, Spring Lake, Fruitport, Nunica and Muskegon, with grades pre-school through eighth grade.

GRAND HAVEN -- Following the recent launch of her two newest novels, local author, Donna Bocks, is holding a reading event and presentation at the Loutit District Library on Thursday, November 3 at 7:00 p.m. in Program Room B.

This event will feature passages from Bock’s two newest novels; The Purple Prairie Schooner and Twin Trees. Guests will be delighted to learn of a special tie to Grand Haven in The Purple Prairie Schooner! The book reading will be followed by a presentation by Donna about horses, trying new things and getting out of the old green chair.

This event is free and open to the public and is sure to entertain, motivate and inspire those in attendance. Bocks will be offering signed copies of her newest releases, with all six novels available for purchase at the event.
