Sierra Club Forum to Focus on Air Quality in West Michigan

GRAND HAVEN, MI – With summer just around the corner, comes ozone action days. What solutions are out there?

Come to a forum presented by the Sierra Club Michigan Chapter on Thursday, June 4 at the Loutit District Library composed of local and statewide activists and experts:

- Michigan Department of Community Health Asthma Network and Michigan Air/Michigan Health

- Local students who have recently done air quality testing led by Holland League of Women Voters Representative Don Triezenberg

- GVSU Professor of Sustainability Eric Nordman, and

-Chuck Tawney from the West Michigan Jobs Group

The program begins at 7:00 p.m. in LDL’s Program Room A. Attendees are encouraged to come early for the booths, demonstrations and exhibits beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive Returns on Saturday, May 9

49 million people face hunger every day, including 16,000 million children. The month of May is time for the Stamp Out Hunger Drive sponsored by the Postal Service.

You have a chance to make a difference for those in need & put smiles on faces this Saturday, May9! Place non-perishable food items in a bag or box by your mailbox for the letter carriers in your area to pick up, while they drop off your mail.

These food items will be sorted & delivered to area food banks or pantries for families less fortunate.

Folias Flute and Guitar Duo concludes LDL’s Fifth Sunday Afternoon Concert series May 17

GRAND HAVEN, MI – The Grand Rapids-based Folias Flute and Guitar Duo was founded by the husband and wife duo Carmen Maret and Andrew Bergeron in 2002.

On May 17 at the Loutit District Library (LDL), the duo will their perform original flute and guitar music influenced by classical, tango, and jazz.

They have performed in concert halls, clubs, and for tango events across North America. The duo’s original compositions and arrangements have been recorded on the Blue Griffin Recording and White Pine Music labels and have been reviewed by Flute Talk and Fanfare.

The concert will be held on LDL’s upper level lobby area from 2-3 p.m. Library officials urged the public to come early due to limited seating. LDL opens at 1p.m. on Sundays.

GRAND HAVEN, MI -- Tonya Christiansen, owner of Must Love Dogs, will share the path she took to create her dream career out of one of her passions in life with her program titled “Two Ps to Success -- Passion and Persistence” on Thursday, May 14 at the Loutit District Library (LDL).

Christiansen's success reveals that one does not need much to start a new business -- just passion and persistence. A time for questions and answers will follow her discussion. One of her furry business partners will also join her for this program.

Love INC will be celebrating the opening of its new Client Services & Health and Dental Clinic at 326 N. Ferry in Grand Haven with an Open House on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 between 5:00pm and 8:00pm. There will be a ribbon cutting at 5:30pm.
