Comedienne presents “Laff Jest for the Health of It" May 7

SPRING LAKE, Mich.― Sr. Sue Tracy, O.P. (order of preachers), sister and comedienne known around West Michigan for her sense of humor and uplifting speeches, will present  "Laff Jest for the Health of It” at St. Mary’s Church on May 7.

The event will run from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. and include a social hour with Tracy. The general public is invited to attend the program at the church, located at 406 East Savidge Street in Spring Lake.  The program is free, but visitors are encouraged to make an offering to the Dominican Sisters of Grand Rapids.

Tracy is a four-time cancer survivor. She is an oncology chaplin with Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids.  She has lectured extensively on the health benefits of laughter. Tracy is expected to talk about her own journey surviving cancer, her involvement with Gilda’s Club, and  her professional background.

Tracy has served others as a Dominican sister for over 50 years.  She’s also a teacher and author. Ruthmary Miller, a parishioner at St. Mary’s Church in Spring Lake, first became aware of Tracy’s programs when she attended last year’s LaughFest in Grand Rapids.

“When I was introduced to Sister Sue, I remember coming out of the LaughFest program with a positive attitude.  My sides were hurting from laughing!  It was then I knew Sister Sue had to bring her joy to this [church],” said Miller.

Tracy  remembers dressing up as an elf for a nursery school event; she could not wait to get on stage.  She then had to choose between Hollywood and Marywood.  She now enjoys both.

“We all need humor and long for laughter in our lives.  It is a magnet and a source of healing.  Laughter is a gift from God,” said Miller.

Tracy  is a member of the Association for Applied and Therapeutic Humor.  She holds a B.A. in English and speech from Aquinas College.  She is a state, local and national speaker on a variety of topics, as well as  a Certified Laugh Leader with the World Laughter Tour, presenting her humorous programs since 1990.
