GRAND HAVEN, Mich.—How will the Affordable Care Act affect your bottom line?

The Grand Haven Chamber of Commerce hopes to answer that question with the help of health care, accounting and legal experts this Thursday, December 5.   The Chamber will present “The Affordable Care Act & Your Business” from 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Trillium Event Center.   Admission is $25 for chamber members and $35 for non-members; breakfast and materials are included.

GRAND HAVEN, Mich. -- Loutit District Library will close at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 27 and remain closed Thursday, Nov. 28 for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Local restaurants serve up free meals to veterans November 11

Some West Michigan restaurants are honoring miliatry members  this Veterans Day by serving up free meals.

Lakeshore Partnership is also offering a free meal to veterans at 19 of its local McDonald’s restaurants.  Military identification is preferred, but not required.  Participating locations include:

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.—An ArtPrize entry bringing the beauty of living plants to downtown Grand Rapids is sticking around.

“East of Eden” will remain outside the B.O.B. for at least another year. The 1,400 square foot piece has already been replanted with more than 2,000 winter hardy perennials.

Spring Lake resident and LiveWall employee David MacKenzie created the piece of green art.  “East of Eden” made it into the ArtPrize Top 25 this year.

SPRING LAKE, Mich.-- Free paper shredding services will be provided to the community at the Spring Lake District Library Saturday, November 2.

Kent Record Management Inc. will be at the library from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to assist with the process. Individuals are welcome to bring up to 100 pounds of paper for shredding.

SPRING LAKE, Mich.--Learn how to hire and manage employees during a free workshop at Spring Lake District Library Wednesday, October 23.

From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., SCORE counselor John Brocci will share information on how to determine if a business can afford to hire new employees, legal requirements and paperwork when hiring, recruiting and interviewing techniques, as well as how to motivate and retain employees.

SCORE is a nonprofit organization that offers free and confidential business counseling, mentoring, and training to entrepreneurs and small businesses nationwide. SCORE is a resource partner with the U.S. Small Business Administration.

Ottawa County companies look to hire 129 workers Tuesday

OTTAWA COUNTY, Mich.-- Several Ottawa County companies are looking to fill at least 129 positions during Michigan Works! Employer Of The Day events Tuesday.

At the Michigan Works! Grand Haven service center, Adecco staffing agency will hiring for Herman Miller, Shape Corp. and NPR.  A total of 55 positions are open, including machine operators, with wages beginning between $9 and $10 an hour.

Applications will be accepted and on site interviews conducted from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.  The Grand Haven service center is located at 1830 172nd Ave., in the D&W Plaza.

The Michigan Works! Holland service center will host Stratosphere Quality, NOVO 1 Contact Centers and The PIC Group.  Stratosphere Quality will be on site from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., looking for six full-time quality inspectors.  Benefits are included and the wage begins at $9 per hour.
