Grand Pizza Fest - A Delicious Time For All

The first Grand Pizza Fest was held this past Saturday, March 24th at the Grand Haven Community Center.  10 of our area’s local pizzerias participated in the event for the title of 2012 Grandest Pizza Champ.

The Grand Pizza Fest started at 1pm, with music from local band Barefoot Sunday.  Attendees paid an admission, receiving samples from each pizzeria and a commemorative apron.  “I really enjoyed the atmosphere of the event,” Jennifer Beukema, one of the 200 attendees stated, “It was a good way for the community to get together and sample pizza from places they may not have tried before.”

At 3:30pm, nine attendees participated in the first Pizza Pie Eating Contest.  The objective was to see who could consume one Fricano’s Pizza Pie the quickest.  The winner, Zachary Richards of Grand Haven downed his pizza in 3 minutes 38 seconds, receiving a Fricano’s T-shirt, $25 Dune Dollars, and bragging rights as the Pizza Pie Champ for 2012.

Attendees received a voting ballot and cast their vote for their favorite pizza in both of the two categories:  5 or Less Locations and 6 or More Locations.  The pizzeria participants vying for the win in the 6 or More Locations category included: Jet’s Pizza, Little Caesars, Palermo Pizza and Pizza Hut WingStreet.  The runner-up was Palermo Pizza, and the Grandest Pizza Champ was Jet’s Pizza.

In the 5 or Less Locations category, Clover Bar, Fricano’s Pizza Tavern, K2 at the Kirby House, Mama Mia’s, Mr. Scrib’s, and Old Boys’ Brewhouse battled it out.  The runner up was Old Boys’ Brewhouse and the Grandest Pizza Champ of 2012 was Clover Bar.  Congratulations to all our winners.

The Chamber of Commerce, presenter of the event, would like to thank their sponsor Centennial Securities Company for their support of the Grand Pizza Fest.  “We felt the Grand Pizza Fest was a success, we receive great comments from the community and are looking forward to an event next year!” Courtney Geurink, Program & Events Coordinator for the Chamber of Commerce stated.  Any questions can be directed to Courtney at cgeurink@grandhavenchamber.org.
