Social Media Workshop Returns for the 2011 – 2012 Year

Starting its third year, Social Media Workshop will begin on Friday, October 7th with a session on Blogging presented by Chad Huntley of Element Design.

Formally known as 2E Network, Social Media Workshop is a monthly gathering to educate the business community on the constantly growing and changing form of communication, public image, and marketing tool known as social media.  Topics and presenters vary every month, while the general focus of social media remains constant.  The workshops are coordinated by the Chamber of Commerce Grand Haven, Spring Lake, Ferrysburg and held on the first Friday of the month from October through June at 7:30 am.

“Social Media Workshop is a beneficial event for business professionals throughout our community.  Our goal is to keep everyone updated on the latest changes, educate on ways to utilize a certain form of social media, discuss how to manage multiple accounts, and overall to form a support network of area businesses on social media through meeting face to face,” Courtney Olson, Social Media Workshop Coordinator, stated.

“Each month we bring in a qualified guest presenter to discuss hot social media topics for our attendees.  We have a great line-up this fall and are very excited to get start on October 7th with a session on Blogging presented by Chad Huntley of Element Design.”

According to Huntley, implementing a blog into a company’s website is the single most important factor in search engine optimization.  “A blog gives the ability to provide fresh content to users, which in turn gives the company the opportunity to expand their website into an unlimited number of pages.  A properly executed blogging strategy will increase traffic to a website exponentially, helping the site climb the search engine rankings,” Huntley commented.

November’s session will be held on Friday, November 4th and will feature a presentation by Paige Brockmyre of NeXt I.T. on LinkedIn for Business.  December 2nd’s Social Media Workshop looks at tips and tools for managing multiple social media platforms, presented by Christopher VanOosterhout, an instructor at Muskegon Community College.

If interested in attending an upcoming Social Media Workshop, register by calling the Chamber at 616.842.4910 or email Courtney at colson@grandhavenchamber.org.  The cost to attend is $20 per person and a continental breakfast is provided.  Chamber members receive a discounted rate of $15.
