GRAND HAVEN, Mich. – Loutit District Library invites the public to join David Garland of FirstMerit Bank on Thursday, Jan. 8 for an interactive and insightful presentation regarding personal fraud and identity theft.

Learn what to carry in a purse or wallet, what to keep in one’s safe deposit box or home safe, and what information to share over the phone. Garland will teach the right way to check a credit report and the safest way to use debit and credit cards. There will be a question and answer session to allow additional discussion.

Garland has been a member of the community for over 20 years. He has 20 years of financial services and banking experience in commercial lending, small business banking, consumer lending, mortgages, secondary mortgage marketing and financial consulting. As a Ferris State University graduate, Garland holds a B.S. in Finance  and A.A.S. in Real Estate.

Garland has served as a board member of Grand Haven DDA, Tri-Cities Historical Museum, Bluebird Cancer Retreats, Grand Haven Lighthouse Conservancy, and Tri-Cities Kiwanis.  Currently, Garland is active with Grand Haven Rotary, 100 Men Who Care, and Chamber of Commerce.

Loutit District Library is located at 407 Columbus Ave. in Grand Haven, Michigan. LDL serves 35,540 residents of the City of Grand Haven, the City of Ferrysburg, Grand Haven Charter Township, Robinson Township and that part of Port Sheldon Township in the Grand Haven Area Public School District.
