My Town Grand Haven: Boot Camp fundraiser 'a great success'

GRAND HAVEN, Mich.—  Organizers of the Robinson Elementary Health Week and Boot Camp fundraiser now say participants raised more than $6,000 for materials, programs and activities for the school.

We had about 360 kids run the course the day of boot camp, 50 volunteers, 65 kids pledged to "unplug" for the week, over 60 sponsors and we raised over $6000!!!  It was a great success and the kids had a blast!!.

Organized by the school PTA, the May 9 event was the culmination of a week of activities at the school, in partnership with the NFL Play 60 team and North Ottawa Medical Group.

Approximately 360 children from preschool to fourth grade ran, skipped and jumped through a variety of obstacles. Matt Wilbur, owner of Grand Haven Fit Body Boot Camp, helped all of the children warm up before they started the course. At the finish line, they were greeted by a military dad who handed out military-like dog tags, paid for by the Ottawa Animal Hospital, as well as goodie bags. Other sponsors include Midge Verplank, Kangaroo Palace, Hall Family Chiropractic, Katrina Van Houten Income Tax Service, Mercy Health Partners- Lakeshore Family Care and Buffalo Wild Wings.  Local community members and businesses also donated prizes for the children.

This was the second year for the Health Week and Boot Camp fundraiser, which is the school PTA’s largest fundraiser of the year. Approximately 50 volunteers helped pull off the event and 65 children pledged to "unplug" for the week.
