Loutit District Library to host Grand Haven High School Choral Ensemble May 15

GRAND HAVEN -- Grand Haven High School Choral Ensemble will perform on May 15 at 2:00 p.m. as Loutit District Library concludes its 2010-2011 Sunday Afternoon Concert Series.

The Choral Ensemble will present Songs of Love. Beginning with Robert Burns poetry "My Luve is like a Red, Red Rose" set to music by Randall Stroope ,the ensemble will explore songs of love by famous poets like William Shakespeare and Sara Teasdale. From the opera "Andrea Chenier" to a traditional Cuban song about love of faith, be prepared to sit back and fall in love all over again.

The Grand Haven High School Choral Ensemble has been rated one of the top ten ensembles in the state of Michigan ten times in the past 20 years. They have 22 years of superior rating at both the District and State Solo and Ensemble Festival they are one of seven performing choirs at the high school.

Conversations on Caregiving: A Workshop with author Bill Martin

Those in a caregiver role often feel alone, overwhelmed, exhausted. Authors and experts William and Nancy Martin have worked as counselors, hospice trainers, and Zen guides—and as caregivers themselves. With empathy and insight, they offer readers solace drawn for the eternal wisdom of the Tao Te Ching. Bill is the author of six books, including the classic The Parent’s Tao Te Ching, which was picked by Oprah Winfrey to be on her “O List” of recommended books.

What to Expect:

If you are a caregiver in any capacity - professional, volunteer, or within a family situation - you will find an atmosphere of discovery, encouragement, and inspiration while visiting with Nancy and Bill during their intimate    seminars.

Loutit District Library to present photography class May 12

GRAND HAVEN -- Graphic Designer and instructor Amanda Troyer will present her photography program titled Macro Photography on May 12 at the Loutit District Library from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in Program Room A.

Macro photography is the art of taking photos extremely close up and making ordinary objects look larger than life. Troyer will teach how to zero-in on a small portion of a large subject to create an interesting abstract image, or fill the frame with a tiny subject such as flowers, nature and creatures like bugs and butterflies.

Troyer is the Senior Designer for Daybreak, where she leads a team of graphic artists, photographers and technicians. She also serves as a Tek Director for weekend services. Amanda is a graduate of Kendall College of Art & Design and is currently a freelance designer for clients from New York to San Francisco.

Grease was the word last night at Spring Lake High School. For the past few months over 100 students have been preparing for this evening, and it showed. The opening night was a huge hit. Tickets are still available for Friday and Night, so don't miss out on a great show.

Tulipalooza Battle of the Bands - Grand Haven and Holland

Tulipalooza Battle of the Bands second round is taking place at Kirby Grill in Grand Haven this Thursday, April 28 at 8pm. Come on out and support local music. Next Thursday, May 5 will feature the final round of Battle of the Bands in Holland, at Park Theatre.
