SPRING LAKE, Mich., June 7, 2011 – Saint Mary’s Church’s largest public fundraising event of the year?the annual White Elephant Sale and Festival?will be held July 8 and 9 at the church, 406 east Savidge Street in Spring Lake.  A raffle drawing for $11,500 will highlight the event.  The general public is encouraged and welcome to attend.

New this year will be a public fish boil, plus two children’s games called “The Berry-Go-Round” and “The Tumbler.” The Berry-Go-Round is a giant strawberry that twirls kids around and they control how fast the rides turn.  The Tumbler looks like a hamster wheel, whereby, kids are strapped in and go in circles plus upside down.

Also new will be the headline entertainment in the evening beer tent, featuring local performer Brian Fedewa.  He has performed professionally in Chicago and is a career musician.  In addition, Luke Perfect will perform as a disc jockey in the afternoon to provide musical entertainment.

Popular annual favorite components to the annual Festival will return this year.  These include the Women’s Club Bake Sale, carnival rides, quilt raffle, bingo, a beer tent, dinner, snacks, the “Flush ‘Em” game and ham wheel.  Of special interest this is year is a “Hot Shot Basketball Tournament.”

As in year’s past, the popular and well-attended “White Elephant Sale” will kick off Saint Mary’s Annual Festival on July 8.  A complete roster of Festival events follows, with specific times:

  • July 8 – 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.:  White Elephant Sale – Saint Mary’s School buildings (adjacent to church parking lot)

 

  • July 9 – 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.:  White Elephant Sale continues

 

  • July 9 – Noon to 4 p.m.:  Luke Perfect, D.J., entertainment

 

  • July 9 – Noon to 5 p.m.:  Ham Wheel; Hot Shot Basketball Tournament, Women’s Club Bake Sale and Quilt Raffle

 

  • July 9 – 1 to 4 p.m.:  Berry-Go-Round and Tumbler carnival rides.  Cost:  50 cents per child.

 

  • July 9 – 5 to 9 p.m.:  Brian Fedewa, musical entertainment

 

  • July 9 – Noon to 7 p.m.:  Roast Pork and Turkey Dinner, with corn, potatoes and onions, dinner roll and brownie.  Cost:  $8/ person.  Also, hotdogs and popcorn available at minimal prices.

 

  • July 9 – Noon to 9 p.m.:  Games & Rides for Kids.  Cost of games is 50 cents per child.  Tickets  available on site at event.

 

  • July 9 – Noon to 9 p.m.:  Fish Boil, featuring salmon, corn, potatoes and onions with melted butter; food provided with help by Maggio’s from Fish X2

 

  • July 9 – Noon to 9 p.m.:  Beer Tent for adults with local entertainment by Luke Perfect.

 

  • July 9 – 7 p.m.:  Raffle drawing:  For $10,000, $1,000, and $500 in prizes under the big tent

 

This year’s Festival chairperson is Suzanne James.  White Elephant Sale chairperson is Lori Dinneweth.  All proceeds from Saint Mary’s White Elephant Sale and Festival go toward Catholic education in the Tri-Cities to help make tuition affordable for all students.
