News Release:

Grand Haven, Mich., September 26, 2011: Painting. Games. Free food. Live music. ArtWalk’s 2011 Family Art Day, on October 1st, will offer all of these things and much more! The family focused affair offers a fantastic way for parents–grandparents too–and kids to spend a fun, fall afternoon together.

There will be canvases and paint set out for guests to create their own personal masterpieces. The completed artworks will then hang outdoors, along the side of ArtWalk headquarters (18 N. 5th St.), throughout the final week of ArtWalk 2011.

“We had Family Art Day last year and it was a huge success,” said Steve Loftis, ArtWalk organizer. “Seeing all the kids show up with their moms, dads, grandmas, grandpas, aunts and uncles was inspiring. There’s something electric about families coming together in a collective appreciation of art!”

ArtWalk Family Art Day will be held at ArtWalk headquarters. The event begins at noon and will end at 4:00 p.m. All members of the public are welcome. There will be grilled burgers, sides and drinks. And an array of activities to boot. All free of charge, thanks to the generous sponsorship of JSJ Corporation.

“When Family Art Day is over, we will be encouraging guests to head to Loutit Library to check out the ArtWalk Youth Competition,” said Dana Kollewehr, director of Main Street Downtown Development Authority, the organization that hosts ArtWalk. “The youth competition is yet another way that kids can get involved with ArtWalk. The competition begins on Saturday, Oct. 1st at noon ends on Sunday, Oct. 2nd at 3:00.”

The Youth Competition is for artists 17 years and under. There are three age groups: 8 and under, 9-13 years and 14-17 years. Categories include painting, sculpture, drawing/mixed media and photography.
