My Town:Registration open for LDL’s two-part wood carving techniques workshop

GRAND HAVEN, Mich. – Artist Terry Kipling will demonstrate wood carving with an emphasis on the many methods of wood removal in a two-part workshop series at the Loutit District Library on Saturday, Jan. 10 from 1 to 4 p.m. and concluding on Thursday, Jan. 22 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

An assortment of tools, including high-speed grinders, foredoms, rasps, draw knives, chisels and bow sanders will be used to shape and remove wood in the process of creating a beautiful art piece.

Basswood, cedar, walnut, tupelo, and butternut wood will be used. Students will work with wood and tools to understand the differences and characteristics of each. This is a free program but a one-time registration enrolls the student in both sessions. The registration deadline is Jan. 8. Both sessions will be held in LDL’s Program Room A.
