GRAND HAVEN, Mich.—Dozens of artists transformed sand into art this past weekend for the 33rd annual Chamber Sand Sculpture Contest.

A panel of business and group leaders from across the community judged the entries, which were created by 26 teams.  The winners were:

Individual Child (under 12 years old)

  • 1st Place:  Beach Monkeys with their sculpture of turtles

 

Group of Children  (2-7 participants, under 12 years old)

  • 1st Place: Lil’ Sand Carvers with their sculpture of Olaf
  • 2nd Place: Barnes with “Kittens”

 

Individual (12 years or older)

  • 1st Place:  Conny Melchi with a sculpture of puppies
  • 2nd Place: Kiefer’s Kastles with “Kastle”
  • 3rd Place: Lemon Bubble with “Dan’s Castle”

 

Family (2-7 participants, all ages)

  • 1st Place: Sandformers with a dragon sculpture
  • 2nd Place: Team Seabass with “Doggy Paddles Kayak”
  • 3rd Place: Bodkin Family with their sculpture of a sea horse

 

Crew (8-15 participants, all ages)

  • 1st Place:  Duds & Duddettes with “Mosquitos Suck”
  • 2nd Place:  The Beach Guys with “Summer Solstice 2014”
  • 3rd Place: CIT with a sculpture of a race car

 

Melted earned an honorable mention with its sculpture of Olaf.  More than 329 votes were cast for the People’s Choice Award, which went to the Dudes & Duddettes.  The Chemical Bank Award went to the Chemical Bank Team with its sculpture, “Sea’ once”.  The North Ottawa Community Health System Award went to the Shamback Family for “Noch A Sketch”.

The Sand Sculpture Contest will return June 20, 2015.
