My Town Grand Haven: New Tri-Cities Music Festival connects community

GRAND HAVEN, Mich. -- He was the inspiration behind the Spread the Music Foundation in the Tri-Cities area. Now, once again, Grand Haven Charter Township musician/songwriter David Palmer has been stung by the musical community spirit bug.

Palmer has founded the Walk the Beat Foundation which features the tagline “Teaching the Rhythm of Life.” This new foundation will kick off with Walk the Beat, an event to be held on Aug. 16 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. The event will feature more than 300 musicians from all genres and thousands of dollars worth of prizes.

A collection of 40 businesses throughout Grand Haven, Spring Lake and Ferrysburg will host a soloist/duet/trio for the first 2.5 hours of the event and a band for the second 2.5 hours for a total of 80 musical performances. The public will be welcome to come and go from each musical event at any time.

Each location will have two major door prizes worth a minimum of $200 each, in addition to fun family-oriented activities. The grand prize- airfare and a two night stay in New York City- will be awarded Saturday night and posted to the WTB website. For more information concerning prizes and the event, visit http://www.walkthebeat.org.

The Walk the Beat Foundation is a nonprofit 501 C (3) established in 2014 dedicated to helping children in our area become involved with music regardless of their economical or academic status. WTB will help provide children with the tools it takes to become involved with music, whether it is supplying instruments, education, or even giving them the opportunity to perform live. Walk the Beat is designed to assist organizations in stimulating musical awareness and education to children.
