GRAND HAVEN, Mich. -- Artist Donna Rey-Taylor’s artwork is about the positive aspects of life, the beauty that surrounds us, and images that bring peace and serenity to one's spirit. Her art is straight-forward in its interpretation.

It is about the beauty of our world, and is intended to remind the audience of special times and places in their lives.

One special place in Rey-Taylor’s heart is Mackinac Island. There's no better way for her to demonstrate that love than to create ten 22 foot by 30 foot watercolor paintings titled "Mackinac Island, Michigan's Watercolor Wonderland" illustrating her appreciation for the beauty and solace the island offers. Moreover, the paintings are meant to remind the viewer of a time when they too visited; they represent a realistic image of its splendor.

Beginning Thursday, May 1, the Loutit District Library will host Rey-Taylor's  Mackinac Island series on the Library’s upper level through June 11. The viewer will experience the awesomeness of nature and the peacefulness of spirit that Mackinac Island offers. Each of these ten paintings offers a story; each story tells of an experience in past and present time.

On Monday, May 5, Rey-Taylor will reflect on her stories as she leads viewers on a visual tour and explanation of each painting. She will conclude the presentation with a question-and-answer period. The program runs from 7 p.m. through 8:30 p.m. in Program Room A.

In 2001, the series was given the distinct honor of hanging in the State Capitol Building in Lansing by permission of then-Governor Engler. Many of the images are from past times so the series now is considered a historical representation. The showing at the Capitol gives this series a unique provenance.
