Vibraphonist Performs at Spring Lake District Library

SPRING LAKE -- Professional jazz vibraphonist Jim Cooper will be performing at the Spring Lake District Library on Sunday, Nov. 14 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The public is invited to enjoy jazz tunes performed on the vibraphone and learn about the music of other great jazz vibraphonists.

For those who may be unfamiliar with the vibraphone, it is a percussion instrument that resembles a xylophone, but has metal bars, resonators driven by motors, and a sustain pedal like a piano. Cooper utilizes both his piano and drum skills when playing the vibraphone.

Cooper will talk about jazz vibraphone greats like Lionel Hampton, Milt Jackson, Cal Tjader, and Gary Burton  and play some of their best know songs like Bag's Groove, Flying Home, Little B's Poem, and Falling Grace during this free performance.

For more information about this program, call the library at (616) 846-5770, ext. 107. The library is located at 123 E. Exchange Street in Spring Lake.
