Library taking reservations for business workshop

GRAND HAVEN, Michigan -- Registration is now open for an entrepreneur and business workshop that would help anyone realize their dream of owning and running their own business at the Loutit District Library, 407 Columbus Avenue, on Saturday, November 13 at 1:00 p.m. in Program Room A.

 This two-hour workshop entitled How to Start Your Own Small Business in Michigan will cover the wide range of government and legal requirements that apply to starting a small business. Topics to be covered include: legal structure, business taxes, employment issues; registration & licenses, small business loans and the SBA; the business plan; government resources, and small business marketing strategies. The instructor is Tom Schurino.

Schurino is the past director of the Michigan Small Business Development Center for the Muskegon and Flint Michigan Chambers of Commerce. He also served as the director for the International Trade and Development Center for Riverside California Community College and is the former Executive Director for The Corning New York Chamber of Commerce. He holds a M.A. degree in Education from California State University Long Beach and a BBA degree in Business Administration from Western Michigan University.

He recently completed a Fulbright Research Trip to Africa with the Midwest Institute for International-Intercultural Education where he visited small business enterprise projects in Botswana, South Africa, and Swaziland. Schurino currently teaches International Business at Muskegon Community College.
