Grand Haven business owner weighs in on Sunday alcohol sales

GRAND HAVEN (WZZM)-A Grand Haven business owner says lifting the ban on Sunday morning alcohol sales would help local businesses along with the state.

Governor Granholm is reviewing the bill which state lawmakers approved last week. It would allow businesses to sell alcohol starting at 7 a.m. on Sundays if they buy a special license. Under current state law, businesses can only sell alcohol after noon on Sundays.

"A lot of people from out of town come in here and say, 'oh, I can't buy alcohol before noon.' And then they leave. When we get people in the store, it's nice to be able to service them and sell them what they want," said Mugs owner Doug Donselar.

The $160 fee for the Sunday morning license would go to the state budget.
