Annual Chamber Jingle Bell Parade this Saturday

From: Grand Haven Chamber of Commerce

The Chamber’s 2010 Jingle Bell Parade will take place this Saturday, December 4 starting at 6:00 p.m.  The parade will travel west on Franklin Street beginning at 3rd Street to Harbor Drive, north on Harbor Drive to Washington Ave., then east on Washington to Central Park for the lighting of the Community Christmas Tree.  The tree lighting will include a carol sing with Santa and Mrs. Claus led by Capt. Jay Davis of The Salvation Army.  The Salvation Army Canteen will be on hand at the park offering hot chocolate and hot cider.

Grand Marshal for the parade is Ken Formsma, Ken spearheaded the drive to raise funds which enabled the Grand Haven Boardwalk to be built.  For the 25th Anniversary of the Boardwalk Formsma once again rallied the community to raise $300,000 for the much needed repairs to renew the boardwalk, and with enough donations to create an endowment fund to ensure the boardwalk will always be maintained. Because of his efforts, thousands have enjoyed our boardwalk in the past and will continue to enjoy it in the future. Formsma was recognized and awarded the Spirit of Community Award at the Chamber’s Annual Dinner this past April.

Streets along the parade route will be closed beginning at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 4.

The Jingle Bell Parade and Christmas in Central Park is sponsored by Community Shores Bank.  Special thanks to the Chamber Ambassadors and community volunteers who make this special event a reality.  Please contact the Chamber at 616-842-4910 for more information.
